You also feel the nostalgic after listning to “mere samne wali khidki” or “lag ja gale se”…..

OLD SONGS VIBES!

I remember those days when I was around 9–10. My dad used to play these old songs. I don’t like them at all because they weren’t very hip-hop-style songs. But today, when I listen to those songs, I feel this was the actual music, and today’s Hindi music stands nowhere near it!

Why do Bollywood songs exist?

The early release of songs helps the filmmakers to promote the movies. Numerous movies are rated 3–4 stars on IMDB but were highly successful because of popular songs e.g. Bodyguard (2011), which features the song 'Teri Meri.' was a massive hit at the box office even though the movie is rated a mere 4.6 by IMDb.

The more popular the song, the greater the overall merit for the film.

The harsh reality of today’s Hindi music is it is a tool to get more people to watch movies. Hindi music is that it serves as a promotional tool for the film. Because of music videos, they create songs that are simple to remember and receive a tonne of views on YouTube.

That Time Music

The music of the 1960s and 1970s was slower, more classical, and somewhat traditional. There was no influence from the west. From “Mere sapno ki rani” to “mere samne wali khidki pe,” we had some of the best music and artists during time, but the problem was that not many people had access to music.

Then came the 1980s. Now music was more accessible to the normal public in India. Cassettes, Radios made music to reach more households. People started to inculcate music more in their life. there was A huge scope for music artists and art during this time.

GOAT 1990s music

Humko Humise Churalo… Dil Mein Kahin Tum Chupalo…”

The decades of the 1980s and 90s were the Golden age for the Hindi music industry with some of its greatest artists, including Lata Didi, Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, and many more. Many experiments on music were done during this time. there was a huge scope of innovation in music. Songs from this time are some of my personal favorites including “Ladki Badi Anjani Hai”, “Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali”,“ DDLJ Album”, and “Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho” and many more.

Live concerts were becoming more and more popular. Bollywood music was at its peak both in popularity and quality-wise. With outstanding vocals, it was the perfect fusion of classical and modern sounds. during this time India was the world's 2nd largest cassette maker.

The Downfall of Bollywood Music (the 2000s)

I think this was the point when the style of Bollywood music began to shift. Raps, remixes, and Western music were all introduced to Bollywood music. I’m not arguing that all of this era’s music was subpar.

The popularity of smartphone music apps like “gaana” and “savan” began to soar in the 2010s. Record labels purchased rights to original songs and started remaking music. This was a win-win for the artist. they don't have to innovate they just remix the song and get paid for it. Innovation in music was kind of dead. These songs were not enjoyable, They were just old songs with new tunes.

My take

I believe this is the worst time for Bollywood music because there is no innovation in the music. Bollywood music is losing its uniqueness. Most songs are “old songs with new tunes”, which is not enjoyable.

So this was my research and opinion on Bollywood music. I’m curious to hear your opinion on this in the comments.

until next time,

Peace
